Political Rivals Trade Jabs During Scam Awareness Week

Amidst UK Scam Awareness Week, the SNP’s Stephen Flynn seized the opportunity to challenge Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the issue of broken promises.

Flynn’s Accusations: A Series of Broken Promises?

Flynn, in a pointed barb directed at Sunak, invoked the spirit of Scam Awareness Week. He reminded lawmakers that reporting scams is crucial, then proceeded to outline a series of promises he claimed had been broken.

“So, with that in mind,” Flynn queried amidst laughter in the chamber, “can the PM advise if he’s aware of anyone who’s promised to reduce energy bills, only for them to increase?”

He continued, targeting other pledges, saying, “Or perhaps anyone who promised to ‘back businesses only to tax business,’ or anyone who promised to ‘protect pensioners only to pick their pockets for the winter fuel allowance?'”

The Speaker intervened to remind onlookers to refrain from clapping or interrupting the proceedings.

Starmer Fires Back, Accusing Flynn of Being the “Scam”

Starmer, in a swift retort, pointed an accusatory finger at Flynn, stating, “I can point to a government in Scotland that promised to go forward but takes people backwards. I can identify the first one [scam] – it’s right there,” he declared, gesturing towards Flynn.
