PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) as the largest generation subholding in Southeast Asia recorded success in reducing carbon emissions equivalent to 17 million tons of CO2 through various innovations, including becoming a carbon exchange provider, a program co-firing and new and renewable energy projects with the theme Green Energy Movement (GEM).
Director of Human Capital Management and Administration at PLN NP, Aji Employees in Jakarta, Tuesday (23/4), said that almost 1 million carbon had been traded on the Indonesian Carbon Exchange (IDXCarbon) by PLN Nusantara Power through PLTGU Muara Karang Block 3.
According to him, PLN NP is making efforts from various angles to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner, including by listing on this carbon exchange.
“Apart from the carbon exchange, there are 11 PLN NP PLTUs that have become carbon trading participants and received Technical Approval quotas for Upper Emission Limits for Business Actors (PTBAE-PU) approved by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with a tradeable quantity of up to 35 million tons,” explained the employee Aji.
One of PLN NP’s performances is demonstrated through the production of clean energy originating from co-firing (coal replacement fuel) throughout 2023 amounting to 525.62 GWh or the equivalent of a carbon emissions reduction of 533,291.79 MT (metric tons).
Until now, PLN NP has implemented co-firing continuously at 24 steam power plants (PLTU) spread throughout Indonesia.
“In line with the world’s enthusiasm for reducing the earth’s temperature and as stated in the Paris Agreement, PLN Nusantara Power contributes through the Green Energy Movement,” said Aji.
This Green Energy Movement is realized not only through cofiring at PLTUs that are already operating, but also the company’s seriousness in building environmentally friendly power plants such as PLTS, PLTA and PLTB.
In 2023, PLN NP has successfully completed one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN), the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS), which is the pride of the Indonesian nation. Through this PLTS, the company is able to avoid 214,000 tons of CO2 every year.
“We also always support smart city in the National Capital City (IKN) through the provision of clean electricity originating from the 50 MW IKN PLTS. “Currently we have completed the first 10 MW phase,” added Aji.
The construction of this 50 MW PLTS is part of PLN NP’s plan to develop new and renewable energy (EBT) in IKN Nusantara. “Through PLTS IKN, we will be able to avoid 104.8 tonnes of CO2 emissions
every year. “In the future, many of our projects will be based on EBT,” added Aji.
PLN Nusantara Power President Director Ruli Firmansyah said that his party was focused on the corporation’s plans to realize green energy.
“PLN NP itself has moved to map Indonesia’s future needs. By 2030, we will prepare additional generating units of 6.3 Giga Watt (GW) originating from EBT generators spread across the archipelago,” explained Ruly. (Ant)
