The chairman of the board of directors of Sabella is in despair at the lack of a legal framework concerning tidal energy in France. “The State must include tidal energy in France’s overall energy policy. As a result, without a state project and the opening of the market for tidal turbines, no money coming in is possible for the Sabella company. While waiting for the green light from the State, investors are not financing more the development of SMEs.
The company has 6 months to find solutions
For a year and a half, the Sabella D10 tidal turbine, installed in the Fromveur passage, has partly supplied electricity to the island of Ouessant. “The challenge is the decarbonization of Ouessantworries Benoît Bazire, except that if we could not find a solution, we would have to remove our turbine from the water. But the company wants to be reassuring, “our teams are currently responding to calls for tenders in the field of defense and renewable energies” we can read in a press release.
With the help of the Brittany region, the flagship of tidal energy explains that it is putting in place solutions “to continue the activity of its employees (conservation of their know-how), maintain the continuity of service in Ouessant, continue the projects currently under development, promote tidal energy among energy companies and find new financiers as soon as the State has given the necessary visibility to the sector.
