After the peak of the Lunar New Year 2023, the management unit of Tan Son Nhat airport wants to continue to use the 3,500m2 land area to serve as a buffer for taxis during the holiday of April 30 and the upcoming summer.
On February 7, a representative of Tan Son Nhat International Airport said that the application has just petitioned the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern Airport Authority to continue using the 3,500m2 land area as a buffer space. for taxis.
This land is adjacent to the road to the international terminal and the corner of Bach Dang – Truong Son – Hong Ha (Tan Binh district).
According to Tan Son Nhat International Airport, during the peak of the Lunar New Year, from January 15 to February 5, Tan Son Nhat airport serves more than 37.5 million passengers (equivalent to more than 125,000 passengers/day). .
Statistics show that the average number of passengers arriving in Ho Chi Minh City through the Port is 63,000 passengers/day. Especially from January 25-31 (from the 4th to the 10th of Tet) to 80,000-95,000 visitors/day.
“Although the number of passengers doubles on weekdays, having a buffer zone right next to the airport has helped taxi companies to quickly move cars into the Port to relieve passengers, since then the shortage of cars has almost disappeared. happened”- a representative of Tan Son Nhat International Airport shared.
It is expected that during the peak holiday season 30/4-1/5, the number of passengers passing through the airport will also increase, so the same number of vehicles is needed as during the peak Tet holiday. Therefore, the airport said that maintaining the taxi buffer is very necessary to avoid the shortage of vehicles.
Before the buffer yard, a large number of taxis parked around Bach Dang Street, A75 area greatly affected traffic, security and order as well as the lives of people in the area.
Since there is a buffer, taxis have a gathering area, so it is convenient to manage and pick up passengers at the airport faster.
