SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Electoral Commission (CNE) of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) announced the election of 495 candidates at the municipal level for the February 2024 elections, through the Regional Assembly by Acclamation method.
Rubén Bichara, coordinator of the CNE, said that the election of 52 mayors, 96 directors, 191 councilors and 156 members was formalized.
At a press conference this Monday at the National House of the PLD, together with Margarita Pimentel, Robert De la Cruz, Thelma Eusebio, Aquilina Figueroa, Elías Cornelio, María Alcántara, Karina Flete, Lina Mercedes and Sonia Bidó members of the CNE.

He said among the mayoral aspirants are Luis Alberto Tejeda for Santo Domingo East, Victor Fadul; James, Lenin of the Rose, St. John of the Maguana; Sergio Cedeño, St. Peter’s; Teresa Ynoa, Cotui and Tabare Rodriguez Mao.
Likewise, Rubén Darío Cruz in Hato Mayor, Teodoro Reyes in La Romana, Fiordaliza Pichardo in Bonao, Fermín Brito in Boca Chica, Pepe Ferreras in Cabral, Barahona; Leónidas Sena in Mella, Sofía Tejada in Restoration, Afif Rizek, Tenares; Joselito Espinal in Monción, José Miguel Méndez from Villa Altagracia.
Likewise, 96 candidates for directors of District Boards, 191 councilors covering 52 municipalities and 156 members in 83 Municipal Districts were elected.
The election was held in regional assemblies in Mao, Santiago, San Francisco de Macorís, San Pedro de Macorís, Azua, Barahona, San Cristóbal and the Reinaldo Pared Pérez National House in the National District, with the supervision of the Central Electoral Board.
«Enthusiasm, unity, respect and internal cohesion prevailed in the election of the candidates, strengthening democracy through the promotion of consensus, the unification of ideas and efforts for a common objective: winning the municipal, congressional and presidential elections of 2024,” said Bichara.
