Game News PlayStation Plus: prepaid cards deactivated by Sony, players in embarrassment

The merger between PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now will soon take place with, with it, some redesigns of Sony’s famous online service. This also involves the suspension of some features, such as prepaid cards… which does not help players.

PS Plus, the big change

June 22 with us (and days before for the rest of the world)PlayStation Plus will offer a facelift by merging with PlayStation Now, while offering real new features with three levels of subscriptions. If you are redirected further down in this article to see what it is all regarding, you should know that this big upheaval pushes Sony to some mysterious actions. For example, just yesterday we informed you from the start of 54 games all the same from the PS Now catalog, just that. In the hope of seeing many more arrive, of course.

Today, we are interested in another case: prepaid cards used to subscribe to PlayStation Plus seem to have been deactivated, as many English-speaking users report. Their operation is simple: you buy them from resellers (physical as dematerialized) and in exchange, you receive a code to enter on the PlayStation Store, activating the subscription to PS Plus.

However, the code in question no longer works and constantly returns the same error message: “the prepaid card might not be redeemed. Please try once more later.” Suffice to say that it is unfortunate for all those who have already bought their due and who cannot recover it.

A temporary deactivation

The press seizing the case, some answers to the why and how have fortunately been found. A support email has already clarified the situation: “there is a temporarily disabled feature for PS Plus / PS Now subscriptions that does not allow either subscription to be stacked onto already active subscriptions”it says black on white. The problem therefore seems to apply to all those who are already subscribed to PS Plus (or PS Now) and who would like to extend their subscription with a prepaid card.

“This is only temporary and as soon as we have more information regarding this we will let our players know”, it is also specified. If you encounter the problem, then know that it will not last forever. On the other hand, it is not clearly said why this deactivation takes place: we imagine that with the renewal of the PS Plus to come and the merger of several subscription offers, an administrative headache takes place and that the company has had to make some temporary concessions. Perhaps.
