Little by little, the PlayStation brand is expanding its universe by investing in new areas. Today, the manufacturer is once once more attacking the world of eSports.
After EVO, Sony hits the esports world once more
After Microsoft decided to put its pawns on the world of eSports in 2020 by buying the Smash.gg platform, Sony decided to retaliate in March 2021 by buying the EVO, the Evolution Championship Series, a cultural event offering since 1996 many tournaments on popular fighting games. Today, the Japanese giant affirms its position in the world of eSports by offering itself this time the Repeat.gg technological platform in order to make this video game sport accessible to as many people as possible.
At PlayStation, our vision for esports has always been regarding breaking down barriers that allow gamers to compete at all levels. Together with the talented team at Repeat.gg, we are excited to explore more ways for gamers to engage in competitive gaming and expand the breadth of our esports offerings. This is just the start of our journey and we look forward to sharing more updates with our community in the future. Steven Roberts, Vice President of Global Competitive Gaming at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Repeat.gg, what is it?
As we said above, this platform aims to make the world of eSports much more accessible. For this, it regularly organizes tournaments for players from all over the world; the latter are aimed at professionals in the field as well as at players who are more distant with this universe. The platform also organizes asynchronous tournaments, which means that players do not even have to log in at the same time to participate, which greatly simplifies the setting up of tournaments.
Pour Repeat.gg, the platform’s motto is “eSports for all”, and this new partnership with Sony will further affirm this idea, especially since everything will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as well as on PC and mobiles.
We’ll have access to more resources, games, and technology, allowing us to grow the team to lead Repeat in directions we never thought possible. This will allow us to significantly expand Repeat over the next two years with many new features, continuing our mission to become synonymous with eSports by creating a home where everyone has a chance to compete and win.
