Bloodborne

We attack this selection with a big chunk, since we are talking regarding the game of the year 2015. Bloodborne is the first title from the From Software studio that seeks to stand out from the successful Dark Souls license. Gone are the castles and dragons in pure Dark Fantasy style. Say hello to a Lovecraftian universe in the gothic city of Yharnam. You play a hunter in search of the mysterious pale blood. You wander through the narrow streets of this cursed city to discover its terrible secret. Where Dark Souls leans towards defensive gameplay using a shield, Bloodborne encourages and rewards aggression. Indeed, when you lose life, you have the opportunity to regain it by hitting enemies for a short time. The famous roll has been swapped for a much more mobile dash. You also have a pistol capable of parrying if you shoot at the right time, allowing you to deliver a final blow. The game features a jaw-dropping level design offering absolute consistency and immersion. A must have for all Playstation gamers.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut

Hideo Kojima is above all a genius game designer, capable of the best as well as the craziest. Death Stranding is of this caliber. With this first game from his new stable, Hideo Kojima offers us an unprecedented video game experience. Actor Norman Reedus here embodies Sam Porter Bridges, a transporter in a post-apocalyptic world who has experienced what is called Death Stranding, a paranormal phenomenon that has broken the border between the dead and the living. Since that day, the souls of the deceased, called “Wasted”, wander, aging all forms of life with the help of a supernatural rain. The survivors logically took refuge in shelters located in the heart of Relay towns, the last bastions of humanity. Your mission is to build the UCA (United Cities of America) in order to forge new bonds between humans, bonds lost following Death Stranding. This reunification takes place through the delivery of equipment to the heart of a world that is more hostile than ever. That’s why this game is not for everyone. The gameplay relies almost entirely on walking. Here, patience, analysis and perseverance are the key words with the sole aim of reconstituting a humanity that has lost what characterizes it: its social dimension.

Demon’s Souls Remake

First-born of the famous series of Hidetaka Miyazaki, Demon’s Souls was originally released as a PS3 exclusive in 2010. This laid the foundation for Dark Souls and all other From Software games to come out therefollowing. The backstabs, the loss of souls when you die and the stamina bar that runs out with each action come from there! The action takes place in the kingdom of Boletaria, where experiments on demon souls have brought the world to ruin. Your mission as a player is to stop the creatures that have been released in order to save Boletaria. Its vibe is completely different from its successors. Here, the universe is explored through several “levels” becoming more and more complex. You discover in this universe a prison watched over by sprawling guards, an underground city or even a volcanic mine. The game had the right to a remake on PS5 maintaining exactly the same gameplay. Only the graphics have been revised upwards to remain as faithful as possible to the original experience. You will take full the peepers.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut

After dabbling in platforming with Sly Cooper and exploring the superhero genre with InFamous, Sucker Punch takes on feudal Japan. Ghost of Tsushima puts us in the shoes of Jin Sakai, a Japanese warrior resisting the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima during the 13th century. The title offers a true historical immersion worthy of Assassin’s Creed. Navigating the island plains is a real pleasure, thanks in particular to an original GPS system. Here, it’s not a simple mini-map that guides you, but the breath of the wind allowing you to better admire the graphics of the game. Bow, explosives, smoke bombs, kunais are your best allies in order to get rid of the invader Mongolian. A version Director’s Cut is available on PS5, and fixes some flaws of the original edition. A new area is also available: the island of Iki, with its own narrative arc which extends the experience lived in the heart of this feudal Japan.

God of War

Sony conference at E3 2016. A young boy is quietly playing in front of his wooden house, when his father calls him. He passes the door of his home, his father asking him if he knows how to hunt. He replies yes. And there…stepping out of the shadows, more charismatic than ever, comes Kratos, the slayer of Olympus, who seems to have retired to the northern mountains. The public screams with joy at the unexpected return of this video game saga, which has not been heard from since 2013. Two years later, the game was released exclusively on PS4 and was crowned Game of the Year 2018. Evolving in a semi-open world, Kratos must go laying down his late wife’s ashes with the help of their son, Atreus. They will travel together this Nordic kingdom while building a father-son relationship that they never had. But, as their journey progresses, they will engage in a conflict involving the Nordic deities. We are waiting for its sequel, God of War : Ragnarok for 2022 on PS4 and PS5, still developed by Santa Monica Games. With its effective gameplay, mastered sequence-shot narration and stunning graphics, God of War (2018) made a resounding comeback.

Horizon : Forbidden West

Released 5 years following the first opus, Horizon : Forbidden West follows on from Horizon : Zero Dawn. Developed by Guerrilla Games, the title takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has returned to a primitive state and must face mechanical fauna. Originally peaceful, these machines become more and more aggressive over the years. We embody Aloy, a young Researcher from her tribe, whose objective, in the first opus, is to stop this cybernetic scourge. In Forbidden West, she continues her quest in the lands of the Prohibited West. This second episode is richer than its predecessor with more advanced gameplay mechanisms and a more careful staging. The universe is as mysterious and engaging as ever, packed with jaw-dropping graphics. Get ready to face ever larger and more dangerous machines, animated and designed with the greatest care. Finally, know that the game has excellent cross-gen work. Whether on PS5, PS4 Pro or PS4 Fat, the game runs perfectly. An exceptional sequel to a saga that is just as exceptional.

Marvel’s Spider-Man (la saga)

Marvel’s Spider-Man is the best superhero game we’ve had since Batman Arkham Knight. Embodying the web weaver has never been so enjoyable as in this video game adaptation. Marvel’s Spider-Man sets itself apart from other Spider-Man stories by the simple fact that Peter doesn’t start out as an eternal high school kid who’s just discovered his powers. Here, the climber has been bringing justice to the streets of New York for several years. This seniority of the character makes it possible to offer a refreshing vision and development. On the gameplay side, the game offers us a perfect simulation of the friendly neighborhood spider with a flawless movement system. Weaving your web between the skyscrapers of New York is pure pleasure. The fights are well executed and the story is fun to follow. The game worked so well that it even had the right to a stand alone centered on Miles Morales waiting for the sequel. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is planned for 2023.

Returnal

First PS5 exclusive, Returnal is a 3D Shooter, Roguelite style, developed by Housemarque. The game features astronaut Selene, having crash-landed on the exoplanet Atropos, a strange world with many secrets. However, for some unknown reason, every death she faces results in a resurrection when crashing on Atropos. Your objective is to solve the mystery hiding behind this time loop and escape from this star. Between neat gameplay and an inspired SF universe, Returnal turns out to be an exhilarating experience that will satisfy you if you’re a fan of the genre.

The Last of Us (la saga)

The Last of Us is a cult game from the end of the PS3 era re-released in Remastered on PS4 in 2014. Developed by Naughty Dog, the dads of the Uncharted saga, The Last of Us confronts us with a post-apocalyptic universe where a virus with fungal origins, called cordyceps, has almost entirely decimated humanity. The particularity of this fungus is to take control of its host by making it extremely aggressive. The story takes place in 2033, 20 years following the start of the epidemic. You play as Joel, a fifty-year-old who has lost his daughter, who must escort Ellie, a teenager immune to cordyceps. The girl turns out to be humanity’s last hope to develop a vaccine with the help of her antibodies. What makes the strength of the title is its writing and its nuanced characters. Over the course of their adventure, the two protagonists will forge links, giving Joel a second chance to be a father. One thing is certain, you will clearly not come out of this trip unscathed. A sequel was released in 2020 on PS4, The Last of Us Part II. Where the theme of the first was love, this second opus emphasizes hatred and reveals ever more the cruelty of this universe.

Uncharted 4 : A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4 : A Thief’s End is the conclusion of the adventures of Nathan Drake developed by Naughty Dog. Several years following retiring from treasure hunting, Drake finds himself forced back into service when his brother, Sam, resurfaces. In the footsteps of Henry Avery, a great pirate of the late 17th century, the two brothers seek to find his lost treasure. Driven by an impeccable technique, a simple but effective gameplay and a narration mastered from start to finish, the title of Naughty Dog puts the small dishes in the big ones. The game was also followed by a stand alone, Uncharted : The Lost Legacy. A conclusion in the image of this video game saga, grandiose!
