‘Players are treated like cattle’ – Carragher on new Club World Cup format

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher criticized FIFA for plans to host a 32-team Club World Cup in 2025, saying the players are “treated like cattle”.

The idea of holding a tournament in a new format was announced by FIFA President Gianni Infantino the day before.

– Like the ridiculous idea of holding the World Cup every two years, this is another idea of Infantino. Players need rest, they are treated like cattle. FIFA hates the Champions League and wants something like this itself. European clubs should boycott this,” Carragher wrote on social media.

Infantino has given no further details regarding the new format of the Club World Cup, other than claiming it will feature eight more teams than the 2021 24-team version that did not take place.
