Player of the week has played a major role in breaking the deadlock: Luca Arendt is the top scorer for B-League club SV Völlinghausen.

Völlinghausen – After a slow start, SV Völlinghausen has managed to break free with two consecutive wins (7:0 in Wickede and 9:2 in Hilbeck) and is currently in eighth place in the district league B. An important role in the upward trend is played by 19-year-old Luca Arendt, who scored three times in the last game and is now our player of the week – overall, he is SVV’s best attacker with eight goals this season. In an interview with Cem Aksu, he assesses the current situation surrounding his team.

What were the reasons for the slow start to the season?

We had to deal with a lot of injuries right from the start, which led to some disagreements. After the big win against Wickede, we finally gained a lot of self-confidence and deservedly won against Hilbeck.

You mentioned the victory against Hilbeck – was the margin justified?

Actually, yes. We were already very dominant in the first half, and Hilbeck almost came back with a goal to make it 1:3. Then the goal festival began – some of the goals were outstandingly played out

This is what the coach says

For Völlinghausen’s coach Patrick Jacob, his protégé is the perfect example of a gifted footballer: “Luca is always keen on football. He is the first to get annoyed when training is cancelled and is always on the football pitch. This is also reflected in his football development; he is getting better and better technically and has made the most of his opportunity with the seniors.”

Do these big wins give you a boost for the upcoming game against second-placed Ostönnen and how do you rate them?

Definitely, but we need that against such a strong opponent. Ostönnen will have a lot of possession, we know that. And they have a lot of quality up front. But we also know our quality.

What seasonal goals did you set for yourself before the season?

We have set ourselves the goal of eighth place – at least. We want to reach that. But for now we want to continue to establish ourselves.
