The Borussia players will have to accept Deniz Aytekin’s penalty decision on October 22, 2023.

Probably the bitterest defeat of the season for Borussia Mönchengladbach under Gerardo Seoane (44)! These are the Gladbach grades and the individual criticism following the hard 1:3 defeat at 1. FC Köln in the derby!

Gladbach at 1. FC Cologne: The Borussia professionals in the individual review

Moritz Nicolas: Borussia has two goalkeepers who are absolutely Bundesliga caliber! Nicolas proved this once once more. With several good saves, he prevented anything worse from Borussia’s point of view when the score was 0-1. In the second penalty scene, he was very unfortunate twice – first when he was fouled and then when he was one step in front of the line and the penalty had to be retaken. Note: 3

Nico Elvedi: Was infected by the Foals’ general defensive chaos in the first half. Although he saved time and once more in times of great need, he also played a part in ensuring that the Cologne team got so many opportunities. The Swiss looked much better in the back four – and equalized. Note: 3,5

Marvin Friedrich: He was completely unable to compensate for Itakura’s loss in the central role. His lack of self-confidence was noticeable at first, and Friedrich also seemed much more stable in the back four. Note: 4

Maximilian Wöber: Once once more the best field player! Wöber was Borussia’s best in duels and repeatedly tried to encourage his teammates. Without him, Gladbach would have conceded their second goal before half-time. Note: 2,5

Franck Honorat: On the right side there was little defensive control on Gladbach’s side, and very little happened offensively. The Frenchman tried hard, but was significantly weaker than last time – his top cross to make it 1-1 was an exception. Note: 4

Ab 79. Minute Nathan Ngoumou: He was no longer able to make a big impact. No grade

Luca Netz: Caused the unnecessary corner that ultimately resulted in the penalty. In this scene, the U21 national player lacked the final bite, which Wöber also noted loudly on the pitch. This scene was emblematic of the lack of income on the internet. After 45 minutes it was over for him. Note: 4

Ab 46. Minute Joe Scally: His drive was immediately noticeable! The American wanted to show himself and put in a good performance on the pitch. Scally was also a factor in a much more compact Borussia defense following the break. Note: 3

Manu Kone: The unlucky raven in the derby! In his starting line-up comeback with a penalty that he was responsible for and then he was thrown off the pitch. In terms of play, he was of enormous importance in the second half. Note: 5

Julian Weigl: He was supposed to be the Foals’ defensive strategist, but Borussia’s replacement captain never managed to lead his team accordingly. Far too much freedom for the people of Cologne – that was also Weigl’s fault. All in all, a used followingnoon for him. Note: 5

Florian Neuhaus: The 26-year-old was Gladbach’s strongest offensive player in a catastrophic first half. Neuhaus tried a lot, but didn’t get the support he needed from his teammates. Fell victim to Seoane’s change at halftime. Note: 3

Ab 46. Minute Rocco Reitz: The focus of Reitz’s game was on running into spaces. He played inconspicuously, but ensured a much more stable Borussia performance in the second half. Note: 3

Alassane Plea: Offensively completely signed off! Chabot and Hübers had little trouble taking Plea and his fellow striker Cvancara out of the game. He also achieved very little on the left wing. That was nothing! Note: 5

Ab 79. Minute Robin Hack: The most thankless task possible for the offensive player. No more action worth mentioning. No grade

Tomas Cvancara: His tireless efforts ensured that he didn’t remain as pale as Plea. However, it was clear to him that it wasn’t the right game to quickly get into a rhythm. Note: 4

Ab 79. Minute Jordan Siebatcheu: Offensively outnumbered without support following being substituted on. Not the game for Siebatcheu to prove himself as a starting XI candidate. No grade
