The athletes should be trained on the topics of match manipulation and betting fraud.

Fight once morest match fixing and betting fraud! From 2024, all ÖTV top 50 players will have to attend a “Play Fair Code” online workshop. This is mandatory for all athletes who appear in the top 50 of the ÖTV general class rankings in January. Three different appointment options are offered. The workshop must be completed before the win2day ÖTV national championships (June 29 to July 7, 2024 in Oberpullendorf), otherwise the players will not be allowed to take part in the tournament or other tournaments in Austria from this point onwards.

It is very important to the Austrian Tennis Association that all players are well informed regarding the topics of match fixing and betting fraud, know when something is punishable and how to deal with certain situations. ÖTV President Martin Ohneberg recently made this very clear: “As a signatory to the Play Fair Code, the Austrian Tennis Association is very committed to sports competitions without match manipulation and betting fraud. As a competitive and high-performance athlete, it is now more than ever essential to be well informed regarding the latest developments and requirements in this area and to know how best to behave in which situations. We would therefore like to ask all players to take this issue seriously.”

Raising awareness together: important prevention work

The “Play Fair Code” is an Austrian association for maintaining integrity in sport. The club’s goal is to achieve sports competitions without match-fixing and betting fraud through prevention and awareness-raising. ÖTV is not only a signatory to the “Play Fair Code”, but is also very prominently represented by ÖTV President Ohneberg as a full member and by ÖTV Managing Director Economics Thomas Schweda as a board member. “The joint initiative with the ‘Play Fair Code’ tries very early on to address the problems of match manipulation and betting fraud and to sensitize and train players on these topics,” as Schweda emphasized. “The ‘Play Fair Code’ team around managing director Severin Moritzer is very committed to this matter, the cooperation with ÖTV works very well here,” reported Schweda happily. In addition to Ohneberg and Schweda, Georg Wawer, managing director of ÖTV’s main sponsor win2day, is also a full member of the “Play Fair Code” and is also strongly committed to fighting match manipulation and betting fraud.
