Platform X, which was blocked in Brazil, paid a fine of millions to have the block lifted by the Brazilian authorities. Chief Judge Alexandre de Moraes announced on Friday that the fine had been paid in full. A source familiar with the events confirmed to the AFP news agency that X had made a payment of 4.42 million francs.
The background to the ban is a dispute between billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of X, and the Brazilian judicial authorities. Musk had sharply criticized the court’s decision to block the platform due to the spread of false information, citing freedom of expression. Since the end of August, with a few exceptions, X has no longer been accessible to the approximately 22 million users in Brazil. However, the latest payment could allow the platform to return to the Brazilian market.
