Platform 10 Foundation Ends Collaboration with Beatrice Leanza: Strategic Divergences Lead to Separation

2023-07-04 16:37:40

The Platform 10 Foundation in Lausanne has decided not to continue its collaboration with Beatrice Leanza, director of the mudac, at the end of her trial period. It evokes divergences of a strategic nature.

These discrepancies noted by the Platform 10 Foundation did not make it possible to confirm the commitment of Beatrice Leanza, indicates a press release published on Tuesday. The Italian art historian has been at the head of the Cantonal Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts (mudac) since January 1, 2023.

Questioned by Keystone-ATS, the director of Platform 10 Patrick Gyger invokes the end of the six-month trial period, without commenting further on this separation. Marco Costantini, assistant to Beatrice Leanza and former director of the mudac Chantal Prod’hom, took over as interim director on Friday. “He will ensure the implementation of the continuation of the program in serenity”, declared Mr. Gyger.

“Acute Creative Sense”

Born in Milan in 1978, holder of a master’s degree in Asian studies, Beatrice Leanza is an internationally renowned Italian curator, critic and museum director. In the summer of 2022, the recruitment commission unanimously appointed her, when she was director of the Lisbon Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. She had previously lived for 17 years in Beijing, China.

The selection jury had been convinced “by his professional profile combining a keen creative sense with internationally recognized know-how, from Asia to Europe, in the development of innovative strategies for cultural companies”, wrote at the time Platform 10.

The Platform 10 Foundation brings together three Vaud cantonal museums on the site of the new Quartier des Arts in Lausanne. In addition to the mudac, it hosts Photo Elysée and the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts (MCBA).
