When she enters her kingdom and holds her feather, the noises around her disappear. She disagreed with what we said when we mentioned that art robs the artist of his world. In her view, the artist is free and free and immersed in all the details of life, especially if he frees his art from the burden of expectations and impressions. Digital art did not attract her, she is still attracted by the tangible richness of art with its colors, fabrics, and materials.. She loves writing as well as drawing, and through her pen and feather, she created Wydad Al-Bakr’s creative world, which she made sure to pass through teaching. “Ma’am,” she met Saudi plastic artist, Widad Al-Bakr In the art gallery space studio in the Kingdom of Bahrain; Where she provides counseling and teaching, she singled out her creativity papers and revealed her artistic style.

The artist must enjoy the experience of painting itself, when he finishes his painting, it is no longer his
You have come to view art as life, and that everything we live in is art in one way or another, what is the secret behind that?
This is what I see, and I watch it in everything. I like to be the silent observer, look around you now! All you see is creativity; Location, nature, and details. We, and everything, is from God Almighty, the Creator, the Innocent, the Photographer. When we contemplate the signs of God and His balance in the creatures that we can see with our eyes, we will feel the divine greatness, isn’t that creativity?! Glory be to God, the wonderful.
Art is expansion, creation, innovation, change, and renewal that includes everything we do. Innovation, creation, and creativity remind us that we can work, produce, and make a difference if we are determined and entrusted, and perhaps we are in “Be and it will be” every day and night, Glory be to God. I will ask you a question: without art, would cities be built? both! So we are all artists to populate the Earth by communicating, working, discovering and developing.
Is art an acquired skill or an innate creativity?
True art is an innate creativity and an acquired skill, as evidenced by the fact that there are many who study art and are familiar with all the skills, but they were unable to discover the creativity they possess in order for their distinctive mark to appear! On the other hand, there are those who discovered and knew that they have innate creativity, but did not enhance it with skill and training, and it did not appear or flourish. Innate creativity needs effort to emerge. It is like seeds that are sown in the ground, watered, and take their time to grow and take root in order to flourish. As for me, I believe that each of us is an artist in his field and specialization.
I was freed from attaching my art to expectations
Most artists, from their beginnings and throughout their career, set their sights on the goal of arousing admiration and drawing attention to their art, but Wadad Al-Bakr did not link her art to expectations and impressions, why?
I was one of the majority of this, and I still love that people love what I innovate and innovate, but I finally freed myself from linking my art to those expectations and impressions. I paint because I like to draw, discover, and enjoy, and what happened is that I no longer care regarding the result for the sake of those goals that I mentioned, so the artistic process became free and has depth. When I paint, I am patient, and patience is linked to beauty, and means continuity, and it is one of the tools of pursuit, so my works came out of the circle of extremism, and if my goal of art and creativity is to prove myself, then I do not deserve it!
Your art witnessed a change in presentation and style, and turned to abstraction. Is abstraction an easier way to convey imagination and feelings?
When the artist paints, he takes with him his experiences, thoughts, feelings, studio, and rich imagination on a journey of renewal and discovery, like a group of harmonious friends. Abstraction is one of the thresholds of art. The idea that you want to appear may be clearer with abstraction. As for me, I believe that I have departed from abstraction, transcending it. When I paint, I realize that I meet myself, the materials in front of me, what surrounds me, the sounds, the music, the windows, I am with the drawing, and in the drawing here and now in the present moment. When the artist is aware of this moment, he is already facing the great possibilities and possibilities of the painting in front of him, which depends entirely on him, and how he wants to employ it. I am interested in the space between the two, between the thing and the thing, this space has strong possibilities. I want to silently ask questions through my works, not give the recipient a direction, or a conclusion, for which I have no answers.

I don’t think art will lose its “creative spirit” because of digital arts
artistic identity
How did your specialization in literature and poetry influence the formation of your artistic identity?
artistic identity? I do not pay much attention to this term, because artistic identity is not an imprint that does not change! It is in constant renewal; Animated, changing, colorful, and dancing. As for literature and poetry, I love writing as well as painting, and they are connected in my studio with beautiful harmony, like dances in an epic play, in which I am the author, director, actor, script, stage, decorator, dancers, lights, music, and audience.
In your opinion, does fine art convey, in our Arab world, the true picture of our societies and their cultural and social heritage?
Art is a fantasy, which the artist shows to the tangible world. Should the artist convey the truth, and what is the truth? Art is free, it may express an imaginary state, or it may derive its subjects from reality, and it may merge imagination and reality together, and art unintentionally, in a spontaneous manner, is a carrier of society’s thought, awareness, civilization, and culture. As for the cultural heritage, it is a very important reference, roots and archive for the being of the present now, and it cannot be dispensed with, as it is the origin and cultural depth.
No matter how many years of experience there are, and no matter how famous and successful the artist is, he still needs to develop his tools and ideas. What is Wadad Al-Bakr’s strategy in developing her creative vision?
I believe that every person, whatever his work or specialization, must develop himself. I do not have strategies, but I know that when we develop ourselves, change, and get out of the old repetitive frameworks, this will automatically reflect positively on our creativity. We are living in a fast-paced era, which is the age of information, and being ignorant or ignoring it is a personal choice.
I don’t post messages on my boards
Were your artistic messages affected by the change in the environment surrounding you because of your regional and global contributions?
I don’t have messages in my paintings, I ask questions, as I mentioned, and I might light a corner. These posts enriched and expanded my artistic experience, and this is by the grace of my Lord, praise be to God. It enlightened me with distinct spaces for more learning and experimentation, and opportunities for teamwork and acquaintance, and helped me to leave beliefs, artistic programs, and others that no longer serve me.
Are you considered one of the female artists who have humanitarian and social initiatives? What is the importance of the role that the artist plays in this context, and why does everyone expect him to be the owner of social and humanitarian initiatives and contributions?
The artist influences and is affected, whether he realizes it or not, and I do not think that everyone expects him to be the owner of humanitarian initiatives. He is free, he can be the owner of humanitarian initiatives outside his art. These initiatives, which aim to communicate, spread and confirm the supreme values of peace and charity, stem from desire, love and personal passion, whoever the owner is. If the initiator is an artist, then his initiative will be strong. Because he will employ his tools and talent in order to spread peace, help people, educate them, and give them opportunities to excel and benefit.
Tell us regarding your experience teaching art, and how did you transfer your artistic expertise through your educational lectures and workshops?
The artist’s experiences are affected by his readings, observations, and knowledge of different experiences and cultures, and his continuity in development and renewal. To be creative and creative, so I decided to start teaching art once more in 2019, and I opened my studio for anyone interested in developing their artistic talent. Teaching and artistic guidance is a very beautiful experience, in which there is a lot of benevolence, and it is filled with love, creativity and flowering. Honestly, many times, I learn from my students, they inspire me just as I inspire them, so the artistic experience becomes rich and growing connected to each other, and in continuous rotation, and this is a beautiful thing.
This year, I received a gracious invitation from the Art Gallery Space in the Kingdom of Bahrain for artistic residency, in addition to teaching and artistic consultations. Thankfully, this is in addition to continuing to work and teach in my own studio. I am pleased to mention that the Art Gallery Space is a non-profit institution, established In 1998, it occupied an important position in the artistic and cultural movement regionally and globally. This space was known for its artistic activities such as exhibitions, lectures, educational programs, and artistic residencies.
How do you avoid projecting your artistic style on the artistic identity of the trainees?
This requires a very high skill in teaching, and thank God I have this skill. I usually tend to teach individually, male or female students only, and this has more focus on the trainees. I hear them, guide them, and help them discover their skills. My role is the role of guide and observer, and the result, praise be to God, is that no one is like me, and no one will be like me, we are all unique.

I don’t post messages on my boards, I ask questions
digital art
Many art lovers today are moving towards digital art, do you like this type of art?
It never impresses me, nor attracts me. I might give it a try, just looking into it out of curiosity.
Do you think that art might lose its known “creative spirit” due to the dominance of technology?
Digital arts is a modern raw material of various art materials, and it is closely related to money and earning. No, I don’t think art can lose its “creative spirit” because of digital arts, and I don’t see it taking over either. As I said, and I stress here: No one can defeat the art and antiquities that museums teem with for thousands of years all over the world, and no one can defeat the scent of oil on canvas and marble statues, carved thousands of years ago, and the woven fabric and conceptual constructs of an artist. As for the digital arts, it will be researched, renewed, and experimented more, and it may be mentioned in the history of the arts one day until something other than it appears, and I am always with knowledge and innovation, and I take what suits me.
freedom of choice
“To be the action, not the reaction.” When is art the action, and when is the reaction?
This saying gives us a space of freedom of choice in all our affairs, and makes us change the story in front of us, you are the author. Art is action and reaction, it is a continuous dialogue like a spinning wheel, full of energy and life, a playground, and a creative and innovative match, unlike any other, in which everyone is a winner.
One of the negative aspects of art is that it robs the artist of his world and captures him. Did art capture you, or set you free, and how can the artist control his time and art, and not the other way around?
I disagree with the aforementioned judgment on art, and that it has negative aspects, and that it robs the artist of his world, and I do not know why some of them believe that the artist is only isolated from the world, imprisoned, depressed, and a stranger except for his art and his studio! If the artist was not immersed in all the details of life, in it and around it, he would not have gone out and produced creativity for us. Art is a blessing and inspiration, and a creative outlet for expression, influence, cooperation, communication, improvement, and benevolence. It helps us understand ourselves and reflect on what is around us. He did not rob me, nor did he capture me, and if he were, I would have left him, but set me free, helped me a great deal in everything, made me grateful: watch, perceive, notice, create, organize my time, show me the feeling of a little child’s wonder when he likes something, and the wisdom that begins with wonder . Children are the most artistic, creative and communicative. Try watching a child draw once. He draws without fear, does not care regarding criticism, and is free, unlike adults. They are captivated by their beliefs and people’s opinions of them, and this is captivity and negativity.
True art is humble, but rather makes you more humble and willing to communicate, benefit and benefit. It makes you an artist, a teacher, and generous, and be confident, no one will steal your uniqueness and difference. Art is a beautiful constitution.
From your point of view, is the artist’s credit measured by the number of his paintings, or his exhibitions, or the material return he achieves, or the fame he reaches, or the impact he makes?
With all of them, but on the condition that he is not attached to any of them, he remains free, so that his art remains free, he paints for the sake of enjoying the experience, and the moments that the artist spends in his studio when he paints are much more enjoyable, and when the painting ends, it no longer belongs to him.
If you were not a visual artist today, what would you be?
I would be an architect and interior designer, because I love before and following games.
A final word for “ma’am”?
“Ma’am”… I was young, looking forward, and checking your rich numbers every last week, reading more of you, and if someone had told me at that time that you would hold a dialogue with me, and I would be on your pages, I would have said “no” in astonishment, so we all said: Thank you, “ma’am.”
We suggest that you follow this dialogue with the visual artist, Laila Al-Jandan: Artificial intelligence is a tool for producing distinguished works of art
