A plane carrying 58 passengers and four crew members crashed this Friday in the city of Vinhedo, in the interior of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, the G1 portal reported.
The City Council of Valinhos, a neighboring city to Vinhedo, reported in a statement that there were no survivors of the accident.
According to the airline Voepass, owner of the aircraft, it is a turboprop passenger plane, model ATR-72-500, which departed from Cascavel, state of Paraná, bound for Guarulhos, in Sao Paulo.
The accident occurred at 13:25 p.m. (local time), according to the company. Seven fire crews have been sent to the scene.
The plane crashed in a residential area. According to the Municipality of Vinhedo, the small plane crashed into the Recanto Florido residential condominium, although no neighbors were injured. Witnesses took images of the moment the aircraft crashed. In an official statement, the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) “deeply regretted” what happened to the Voepass aircraft and offered “solidarity to the family and friends of the victims.”
“The Anac monitors the care that the company provides to the victims and their families, as well as adopts the necessary measures to investigate the situation of the aircraft and the crew,” the text indicates.
Lula regrets the event
This Friday, during an official ceremony, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked for a minute of silence in tribute to the victims of the accident.
“First of all, I have to give you some very bad news and I would like everyone to stand up so that we can observe a minute of silence, because a plane has just crashed in the city of Vinhedo, in Sao Paulo,” said the president. . And he added: “It seems like everyone died.”
The Government of the state of Sao Paulo notified that the Superintendency of the Technical-Scientific Police (SPTC), the Civil and Military Police are mobilizing to rescue the victims. Teams from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) and those in charge of removing corpses were also sent to reinforce the work, they indicated in a statement.
