Last Friday, February 9, at around 3:15 p.m., an aircraft traveling from Ohio to Naples crashed to the ground following reporting an engine failure, according to statements from the Naples airport to WBBH. There were five people in total on board the plane.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the two deaths that occurred in the accident, while the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) verified the number of occupants of the small plane.

In addition to the fatalities, at least two vehicles were involved in the incident, as confirmed by the Florida Highway Patrol. Shocking images shared on social networks show the small plane engulfed in flames in the middle of the southbound lane, while stopped drivers observe the scene in shock.
The flight, which departed Columbus shortly following 1:00 p.m., was scheduled to land at Naples Airport at 3:21 p.m., according to flight data. However, tragedy struck before the aircraft reached its destination.
As a result of the accident, all southbound lanes were closed near mile marker 105, police reported, causing congestion and delays in local traffic.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct the investigation into the causes of the accident.
