The plagiarism controversy once morest Anirudh Ravichander, one of the most marketable music directors in India. The controversy has arisen over the song in the latest movie Leo. Anirudh’s track in the film has been accused of plagiarism.
A few tracks with English lyrics feature as part of the background music in Leo. One of them is the track called ‘Ordinary Person’. Critics say that this is a copy of a track from the famous British television series Peaky Blinders. The track in question from Peaky Blinders was created by Belarusian music director Aleksey Stanulevich, also known as Otnika, and Arte Mikhayenkin. It is alleged that Anirudh has composed ‘Ordinary Person’ by copying Otnika’s song ‘Where Are You’.
Many posts regarding plagiarism reached the social media by tagging Otnika. Following this, Otnika himself has responded to this issue through Instagram. ‘Thanks for the messages regarding Leo. I see everything. But it is not possible to answer everyone. Email and Instagram are flooded with messages regarding this. Similarly, the comment box of the track “Where Are You” on YouTube. Things are unclear now. We are looking into it. Hope to let you know regarding things later. But so far I have not raised any charges once morest anyone’ – Otnika informed through Instagram.
Anirudh’s music was present in all the recent big hit movies from Kollywood. Along with the songs, the background music which is prepared by knowing the pulse of the audience makes Anirudh the favorite music director of the directors. Anirudh’s recent films like Vikram, Jailer, Jaawan etc. were all successful.
Etnica’s ‘Where Are You’ was uploaded on YouTube in 2019. Currently, the song has reached 61 million viewers. Heisenberg wrote the lyrics for the song ‘Ordinary Person’ in Leo. Nikita Gandhi sang the song. There has been no professional response from Anirudh or Leo’s team to the discussions on social media.
