The National Awakening Party (PKB) is pushing for the separation of legislative elections (pileg) and presidential elections (pilpres). The ideal gap between the pilleg and pilpres is six months.
“Yes, six months is enough, under a year,” said PKB Deputy Chairman Jazilul Fawaid at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Jazilul said the break was to provide preparation for participants in the general election (Pemilu). Because the implementation of the 2024 Election which is simultaneous with the legislative and presidential elections, makes political parties (parpol) not have longer preparation.
“So that our preparations are also clear, you know, this troop in the presidential election, how a troop must fight to win itself and must win its leader, try how to do it,” said Jazilul.
The Deputy Chairman of the MPR said that the 2024 Election made the public not discuss the vision and mission of legislative candidates (caleg). Because the public is already focused on the presidential candidates.
“That happened at level 1 and level 2, so that the focus is on the community so that they can choose their candidates clearly,” he said.
PKB is pushing for the separation of the implementation of legislative and presidential elections by requesting a revision of Law (UU) Number 7 of 2023 concerning Elections. This step is seen as respecting the sovereignty of the people in choosing. (Z-6)
