TO celebrate the peak of the Student Company entrepreneurship education program, Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI) held the PJI Company of the Year Competition 2024 at Kota Kasablanka Mall, Jakarta, on Saturday (13/7). This event was supported by Zurich Indonesia, Z Zurich Foundation, The Starbucks Foundation, Starbucks Indonesia, and AIG Indonesia. This competition is the first platform for selected young entrepreneurs from 11 high schools and vocational schools in Indonesia to compete at the Asia Pacific level in Tokyo this year and at the global level in 2025.

The Student Company program has empowered 1,336 students in 15 cities by generating 55 new businesses that contributed to a total business revenue of IDR 545 million. This program provides entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, and motivation to students through intensive mentoring in team formation, developing business ideas and strategies, and managing business operations at school. Starting in August 2023, these students will compete at the national level.

Pribadi Setiyanto, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prestasi Junior Indonesia, explained that the main focus of Student Company and PJI COY this year is on sustainable profitability and the application of technology in business. Students are encouraged to develop creativity and innovation in creating economic opportunities that also pay attention to ethical aspects and social contributions.

Heriyanto A. Putra, Vice President Director of PT Zurich Asuransi Indonesia Tbk (Zurich Indonesia), stated his commitment to supporting entrepreneurship education programs for the young generation of Indonesia through the Zurich Entrepreneurship Program, in collaboration with the Z Zurich Foundation.

Liryawati, Chief Operating Officer of Starbucks Indonesia, emphasized Starbucks Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s young generation by providing essential skills that are relevant to their future through a partnership with PJI.

Michael J. Morris, Director of AIG Indonesia, added that this program not only builds entrepreneurial skills but also develops critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity skills in students to face future challenges.

In the 2024 PJI Company of the Year Competition, a panel of judges consisting of entrepreneurs and business professionals evaluates the overall performance of students’ businesses, including learnings from their participation in the Student Company program. In addition to the PJI Company of the Year award, there are three new awards up for grabs this year: Best Financial Management, Sustainability Excellence, and Best Use of Technology.
