Pix with credit function should be launched by the Central Bank in 2023, says Haddad

This Monday (30), the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), stated that the Pix credit function should be launched by the Central Bank (BC) in 2023. The statement was given to an audience of entrepreneurs at headquarters from Fiesp, in São Paulo.

Haddad even raised the hypothesis of the function being launched by the middle of the year, but nothing is confirmed in this regard. The Minister of Finance commented on the subject after a meeting with the president of the monetary authority, Roberto Campos Neto.

By the way, when commenting on the meeting with Campos Neto, which lasted about an hour and a half, the minister stated that he was urged by the president of the BC to unlock agendas that, according to him, were stopped for bureaucratic reasons in the Executive during the management of Jair Bolsonaro .

According to the Central Bank, the financial volume of transactions via Pix reached the mark of R$ 10.9 trillion in 2022. This amount accounts for almost twice as much as that recorded in 2021, of R$ 5.2 trillion. Pix credit’s function should raise the numbers even further.

The minister highlighted that one of the goals is for Pix to become an important credit instrument for all Brazilians. “I have already committed to carrying out the agenda of reforms in the credit system, to improve the environment in Brazil”, he pointed out.

Released in late 2020 hair BC, o Pix underwent some changes to its rules in 2023. The changes sought to bring greater flexibility to transactions at night, in addition to modifying the limits of values in transactions.
