Goaltender Tristan Jarry scored and finished the game with 39 saves on Thursday as the Pittsburgh Penguins scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2.

With the Penguins clinging to a one-goal lead late in the game, Jarry collected a discarded puck to his left and immediately lofted a perfect lob into the empty net at the other end of the ice with 68 seconds on the dial in third.

This is the first goal scored in the NHL by a goalie since that of Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins once morest the Vancouver Canucks on February 25, 2023.

Jarry already scored a goal in the American League in 2018 with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins.

The Lightning took a 2-0 lead in the first period, which Tampa Bay dominated 17-5 in shots on goal. The Penguins then dominated the second period (19 shots to 7) to get back into a tie. Jeff Carter then broke the tie in the third by finally scoring his first goal of the season.

Carter had only one assist in his first 15 games of the season and had not scored in his last 18 games.

Kucherov was complicit in the Lightning’s two goals in the first: the 10th from Steven Stamkos and the fifth from Tanner Jeannot. Kucherov has at least one point in each of his last eight games. He has 16 points during this stretch and 28 in his last 13 games. He leads the NHL in scoring with 39 points in 23 games.

Sidney Crosby and Drew O’Connor responded in the second for the Penguins and Carter gave them their first lead of the game at 2:49 of the third.
