Despite the discussion about the arrival of thousands of immigrants to the US, some states have a shortage of labor and require foreigners to fill vacancies; as is the case in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is on the hunt for migrants because, among other reasons, a report from the Allegheny Community Development Conference suggests that the aging population and lack of employees have worsened since 2020.
The shortage can be seen in a number of sectors. For example, the Pittsburgh Police Bureau has about 100 fewer officers to fill its force in the last month.
Official reports indicate that during 2023, the Pittsburgh Police Bureau had the highest number of police resignations in the 11 years that its union has been keeping track.
The United States has attracted people from all over the world in search of better opportunities, religious, political and economic freedom.
Waves of immigration have come with large flows from Europe during the 19th and 20th centuries, and later from Latin America, Asia, and Africa.
