His first win since August 2020 during his time with the Chicago Cubs. He is the first San Diego player to receive this award since Jake Phoebe in 2007.
Darvish said, “I am more than happy to receive this award in September, just before the postseason,” adding meaning to the team’s contribution to the postseason.
Entering his tenth season in the major leagues, he played 194 2/3 innings in 30 games, posting a 16-8 record with a 3.10 ERA. He played the most games and most innings of any San Diego starting lineup, contributing to the team’s progress to the postseason.
“Of course it feels good,” he said of his contribution to the team. He continued, “I think it was made with the efforts of not only me but all of the team members. Now the team is in a very good condition.”
He, who emphasized the importance of preparation every time he started, said, “It was the most fun when I prepared before the game and the preparations worked in my favor,” he said of the most fun part of the season.
When asked for further explanation on the phrase ‘preparation was fun,’ he replied, “If you dig further into the numbers, you can find things that are not on the surface. It was fun to dig into these numbers.”
After completing the regular season schedule, Darvish is expected to start as the first starter for the Wild Card Series team.
