She revealed that she learned from her son that his colleagues from outside Warsaw, registered in their hometowns, did not return there to vote. – This choice of dates meant that young people were unable to return home every week to their place of residence from the cities where they study or work – she said. – A week ago they were with their families for Christmas – she added, emphasizing that these are not people who can afford to travel frequently.
– PiS chose such dates to demobilize the young electorate who would probably vote for the current government coalition – she concluded. – Our electorate is more mobile, it might not come, it might travel outside the place of registration, it is different with PiS, its electorate is there, they live where they are registered. Hence these results – explained the deputy head of the Ministry of Education.
She admitted that “people have high expectations from us, we have a decade of delays, the expectations are huge, but you must realize that the institutions are in a state of decay, the first months are spent fixing it.”
Responding to Beata Lubecka’s accusation that the campaign was not dynamic, she said it was quite the opposite. – I don’t agree that the campaign was sluggish. Contrary. These elections showed that even in local government elections people vote for well-known names and well-known parties. Poland 2050 has only just entered this system, she admitted.
The Left’s mistake?
When asked regarding the election results, Joanna Mucha said that “By starting a war over abortion, the Left has gained nothing and has harmed us all. It was very irresponsible, it did them no good, and maybe it reduced our collective result by 2 or 3 percent.”
This would coincide with the presidential elections and the current Speaker’s plan to participate in them. – Szymon Hołownia will run for president, that’s what he keeps declaring – assured Joanna Mucha. Will the coalition partner, PO, field a rival candidate?
– Based on the political conversations I am having, it is not certain whether Rafał Trzaskowski or Donald Tusk will be the candidate in the presidential elections – she said.
Partnership for Open Self-Government
Mucha also noted that Poland 2050 is planning a new initiative in local government. – As part of Poland 2050, we want to establish a Partnership for Open Self-Government. Local government is a much broader community, larger than just the commune head, mayor or councilor, she said.
– The structures of the Partnership for Open Self-Government in Poland 2050 will be established very soon. It’s a matter of weeks rather than months, she said.
