“Pirogov”: A total of 12 women have sought help after Botox, one is in serious condition – hospitals

Botox Complications: Latest Update From Bulgarian Hospitals

Recent days have seen a concerning surge in botulinum toxin complications in Bulgaria. At least 12 women have sought medical ⁤attention, four of whom‌ remain hospitalized at Pirogov‍ Hospital, according to Assoc. Prof. Maria Dimitrova, Head of the Nervous ⁣Disease Clinic.

“Four patients are currently hospitalized with us, three patients have moderately severe symptoms, one patient is in a more severe condition with pronounced muscle weakness, impaired swallow function, which necessitated the placement of a nasogastric probe, and with additional cardiological complications after this procedure,” stated Assoc. Prof. ⁢Dimitrova.

mild Cases Expected to Recover

While the majority of patients with milder symptoms will ‍likely make a full recovery, more severe⁤ cases may require a longer treatment course and additional medication.

“According to her, mild cases will be wholly restored, as botulinum toxin is⁣ a planning that exhausts its effect within 3 to 6 months. However,in more severe cases, more time and drug⁢ therapy is needed,” according to BTV.

Antitoxin Arriving from Poland

A critical factor in⁤ treating the most severe case involves the management ⁤of an antitoxin, a medication designed to counteract botulinum toxin’s effects. Though, this antitoxin is⁣ not currently registered for use in Bulgaria.

“Especially in the ‍patient who⁤ is in a serious condition, we expect an‌ antitoxin to come to act in the best way, saeid Assoc. Prof. Dimitrova.

“Because antitoxin is not registered for use in our country, its use is more specific. In ⁣principle, the delivery takes a month, but thanks to the joint efforts of the institutions, the deadlines are shortened and the preparation arrives tomorrow from Poland.

Potential Complications and Symptoms

Assoc. Prof. Dimitrova emphasizes that patients experiencing any type ‍of discomfort or unusual symptoms following Botox injections should seek immediate medical attention.

“According to ‍mild symptoms, they include: mild vision impairment and slight drop⁢ in ⁤eyelids, headache, muscle weakness ⁤and flu -like condition.

In severe cases, patients may experience drooping eyelids (ptosis), difficulty swallowing, and even life-threatening respiratory issues. ”

While the exact cause of these complications remains unclear, Assoc.Prof. Dimitrova suggests potential factors ‍such as overdose, improper injection technique, or external contamination of the Botox preparation.

Botox: Therapeutic and Aesthetic Uses

Assoc. Prof. Dimitrova clarified that all patients affected used Botox ⁣for cosmetic purposes, aiming to smooth wrinkles and enhance facial aesthetics.

“All the injured patients used Botox for aesthetic procedures – for smoothing wrinkles and achieving a smooth and gorgeous face,” Assoc. Prof Dimitrova⁤ explained.

⁤She also highlighted that botulinum toxin possesses therapeutic benefits, employed by neurologists‍ to treat various conditions, including muscle spasms, stroke rehabilitation, and cerebral palsy.

“However, ⁤botulinum toxin also has a therapeutic effect‍ and is used by neurologists in ⁢various paresis, after strokes, in⁣ childhood‌ cerebral palsy, etc.

This⁤ recent outbreak serves as a stark‍ reminder of the importance of seeking treatment from‌ qualified medical professionals and undergoing procedures in reputable, hygienic environments.
