VTA founder Ing. Mag. Dr. hc Ulrich Kubinger has developed processes that can purify heavily polluted water using nanotechnology. Although the game changer in the environmental sector is far from thinking regarding quitting, he is already grooming his daughter Marlen to be a successor. In the cover interview we talked to the 18-year-old regarding values, faith and clean water as a fundamental right.

Ulrich Kubinger, founder of the globally successful VTA group, has been an expert in wastewater treatment for more than fifty years. He has succeeded in developing processes that use nanotechnology to purify polluted water. This patented technology not only removes multi-resistant germs, bacteria and viruses, but also drug residues and microplastics from wastewater by up to 99.6 percent.

In addition to his passion for giving people around the world access to clean water, Ulrich Kubinger’s heart beats for one person in particular: his daughter Marlen Kubinger. Marlen is, among other things, his drive and drive when he has to overcome challenges. Although the visionary is far from thinking regarding quitting, Dr. hc Ulrich Kubinger is already looking at Marlen’s future and is already grooming the 18-year-old to be his successor.

Marlen, can you imagine following in your father’s footsteps?

Marlen Kubinger: As a little girl, I didn’t know exactly what great things my father was doing. I knew he was purifying water, but I didn’t realize the extent of his world-changing work until much later. I am lucky to be able to get involved in the VTA and can now say clearly: I want to be a part of creating clean water for the world.

In which area of the VTA can you realize yourself?

I have already seen every department of the VTA and can’t say which area interests me the most, as each area has its own variety of exciting tasks. When I was twelve or thirteen, I came to the company every day following school and was often allowed to help with analyzes in the microbiology laboratory until the evening.

As a young girl, it was formative for me to see what exactly was being done in my father’s company to actually get water clean. I not only admire the results of the work done, I am grateful to be part of this development – even during the summer holidays I wanted to work every day. I’ve been employed for a year now.

What are your strengths?

My strengths lie in the areas of marketing and public relations, and I would like to use them there at the moment. It is an absolute privilege to be able to support a cause that will change generations to come. I particularly enjoy making people understand what the VTA does for the environment – and how much everyone can contribute.

Like e.g. B. with the music video designed by the VTA, an own version of the hit “Crown of Creation” by the band “Die Prinzen”?

I find it very appropriate to draw attention to man-made environmental disasters as well as the issue of drinking water shortages and polluted water. This song by the “Princes” as well as the images we have provided to make you think make this message clear. Everyone can do good for the environment.

This year, a training center for water and environmental technology is to be opened on the VTA company premises in Rottenbach: the VTA research campus. How is the construction work progressing?

Construction began in spring 2023 and construction work is progressing quickly.

What do you appreciate regarding your father and what are you proud of?

I’m just so proud of my dad. What he has created in his life cannot be compared with anything. He himself grew up poor, but he never let that stop him from achieving his dreams. His childhood shaped him and he is now very socially active. My father gave me a childhood that I am very grateful for. When we go for walks together, we always use the time to talk regarding God and the world – literally – and all the things that move us.

What is the most important thing your father gives you?

My father taught me two important things from an early age: honesty and respect. Every person has the same basic right to an environment worth living in. Neither my father nor I judge people based on their origin, skin color or faith, on the contrary: we treat each individual with respect. Because love is the only good that increases when shared. You only look down on someone when you are helping them get up (smiles). Thanks to my father, I grew up in a safe, loving home. Together with him, who has achieved great things, and the experts at VTA, we give 250 million people access to clean water every day.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I see that environmental protection and clean water are becoming an increasingly important issue for all of us. Together with the support of my colleagues and the support of my father, we will achieve great things for the future.

WORDRAP

Makes me happy… the work in the VTA.

I will never forget … my first time using a microscope.

It motivates me when I see it … how many people work here full of ambition every day.

It annoys me, … if someone misrepresents themselves.

I can switch off… on long evening walks.

My role model … is my father.

My motto: Honesty is the best policy!
