An American-made F-16 fighter jet used by Ukrainian forces has crashed, a U.S. official told the Wall Street Journal. The incident occurred on August 26, “a few weeks after the first American fighter jets arrived in Ukraine.” According to an anonymous U.S. official quoted by the newspaper, the F-16 was not shot down, but the crash was caused by pilot error.

Meanwhile, the Russians are trying to break through on the eastern front. “The fighting is particularly tough” in Pokrovsk, a major logistics hub that has become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance to Russian aggression. This was stated by Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, who spent several days in the region. Russia is putting all its forces into attacks aimed at trying to break through Ukrainian defenses, he said, adding that Ukraine has constantly had to resort to unorthodox methods to strengthen its positions. The capture of Pokrovsk would undermine Ukraine’s defense capabilities and supply routes and bring Russia closer to its stated goal of capturing the entire Donetsk region.
