Mass collision with over 20 vehicles ++ A2 blocked ++ eight people transferred to hospitals ++ eyewitness reports
At the Knutwilerhöhe there was an accident involving more than 20 vehicles on Friday morning. The freeway is therefore temporarily closed to the south.
A rescue helicopter is also on duty.
Anyone traveling between Dagmersellen and Sursee needs patience. Due to an accident involving more than 20 vehicles at the Knutwilerhöhe, the A2 motorway is currently closed. The Lucerne police announced this in a tweet. Eight people were taken to nearby hospitals, and 15 others later sought medical treatment themselves. After the injured have been rescued, the cars will be taken away, said media spokesman Christian Bertschi PilatusToday.
The closure is likely to continue for hours as recovery is proving difficult. Bertschi says to Blick:
“It has various concrete elements, which makes it difficult to recover the vehicles.”
The police are asking for the area to be bypassed on a large scale. The course of the accident is also not yet known. However, as an eyewitness told the Blick, the accident happened on a hill. The sun was extremely blinding there and you could hardly see anything. “Maybe someone braked and there was a collision,” he is quoted as saying. (rad/abt/zfo)
