Pilcomayo River: Tripartite Fee evaluates works and plans future interventions

Asuncion, IP Company.- Members of the Trinational Fee for the Improvement of the Pilcomayo River Basin (CTP) analyzed the progress within the works to enhance the channel that irrigates the Paraguayan Chaco.

On this context, the nationwide director, Darío Medina, highlighted the ecological and productive advantages achieved, whereas future interventions are deliberate to handle the low water ranges in Villamontes.

The quarterly assembly of the CTP, made up of representatives from Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia, addressed a broad agenda that included the present scenario of the river, experiences on ongoing works and the replace of the Grasp Plan, reported the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).

“The water reached the Estero Patiño, revitalizing producers and the good biodiversity, thus benefiting the fauna and flora,” Medina acknowledged at the start of the assembly. This achievement underlines the constructive impression of the interventions carried out so far.

New challenges

Nevertheless, challenges stay. Medina pointed to low water ranges in Villamontes, Bolivia, that are barely 81 cm, affecting the Pozo Hondo hydrometric station. In response, the fee is planning new interventions. “Yesterday we performed a evaluation flight from Gral. Díaz to Mistolar, figuring out crucial areas for future work,” the director defined.

The assembly was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Nationwide Protection (MDN), Ministry of the Atmosphere and Sustainable Improvement (Mades), Rural Affiliation of Paraguay (ARP), Nationwide Emergency Secretariat (SEN), the governorates of President Hayes and Boquerón , in addition to municipalities of stated departments.

This assembly displays the joint effort of the three nations to successfully handle shared water assets, balancing the ecological and productive wants of the area. The planning of future works within the face of local weather challenges demonstrates a proactive method within the administration of the Pilcomayo basin.
