Pieter Derks is providing the New Year’s Eve conference for the NPO this year. This was announced on Tuesday evening in the BNNVARA program Sophie & Jeroen. It is the first time that the comedian has done the end-of-year show on television. Nothing is yet known regarding the content of the performance.
The 39-year-old Derks already made a New Year’s Eve conference for NPO Radio 1 in 2013. A few years earlier, he had become known to a large audience through his weekly contributions to the program De Wereld Draait Door. In 2013, Derks won the popular knowledge quiz De Slimste Mens.
Derks is not going to play his New Year’s Eve conference live. The comedian has thought regarding it, but thinks it is “exciting enough”, he said at Sophie & Jeroen. The show that airs on New Year’s Eve is recorded one or two days in advance.
‘Ultimate performance’
Doing the New Year’s Eve conference for the NPO has “always been a dream”, said the comedian. “I was already watching as a child. This style of cabaret, that topical, that tells stories and puts the year into perspective and turns it upside down and ends it; I always thought that was the ultimate performance.”
Last year Micha Wertheim organized the New Year’s Eve conference. Just like Derks, he had never done that before.
