The ÖVP is carrying out a generational change in the Pinzgau municipality of Piesendorf: Mayor Johann Warter will no longer stand as a candidate in 2024. Bernhard Auernigg (29) was unanimously nominated as mayoral candidate.

Warter has been at the head of the Piesendorf community for 25 years. However, because it is important to Warter not only to communicate his personal decision as early as possible, but also to clarify how things should continue in Piesendorf, the 29-year-old Deputy Mayor Bernhard Auernigg was unanimously nominated on Sunday as the top candidate of the Piesendorf People’s Party.

Setting this course also heralds a change of generations in Piesendorf. When Auernigg moved into the Piesendorf municipal council ten years ago, he was one of the youngest municipal representatives in the whole of Salzburg. Since 2019 he has been working as Deputy Mayor alongside Johann Warter.

Mayor Johann Warter: “I’ve been at the head of our community for a quarter of a century. At the age of 65, it’s time to put Piesendorf’s future in the hands of the next generation. It’s time for a new chapter. It’s time for a new one Commitment to Piesendorf.”

With Bernhard Auernigg, Warter continues, he sees “his Piesendorf” in good hands. Because Auernigg stands for the young, for the next generation – and still has a lot of political experience.

Auernigg himself says: “I feel very connected to our community and the people, not least because of this I volunteer and politically. I’m happy regarding the great trust that Johann Warter and the ÖVP Piesendorf put in me. Now I want to go forward win the trust of the people of Piesendorf.”

In the local council elections in March 2019, the ÖVP was able to increase its share of the vote in Piesendorf to 63 percent. She holds 14 mandates in the local council, the other factions (SPÖ, FPÖ, IDP) together have 7.
