Host and DJ Pierre-Yves Lord took to GeeJam Studios in Jamaica – famous for hosting Mick Jagger, Amy Winehouse, Harry Styles and many other famous musicians – to record his own musical tracks.
Having just returned from a ten-day stay in Jamaica, Pierre-Yves Lord confides that he is still on his “creative cloud”. With his musician friends Ludovic Rolland-Marcotte and Julien Harbec (member of Valaire and Qualité Motel), he went to the famous GeeJam Studios, located in the heart of the Jamaican jungle, in Port Antonio.
The purpose of this trip? Do musical exploration with the aim of producing, for the first time, his own pieces that he can play in his DJ sessions.
“For 4, 5 years I have been telling anyone who will listen that I really have a lot of music in me and that I wanted to find ways to express it. As a child, there were always a lot of instruments and records in my house, my mother sang. So I launched into the universe that I wanted more music in my projects,” explains the 45-year-old artist to Journal.
He adds that following a busy summer and fall at work, travel and music perfectly complemented the rest time he needed.

Make people dance
Monsieur PY made large crowds dance, including those at the Festival d’été de Québec in July 2023 and at the Bell Center, before the Matt Duff show in July 2022.
“I can’t just play other people’s music anymore. Start DJing once more sets during the pandemic, then during these different appearances gave me the taste to create and find my own sound,” he explains.
His new tracks created in Bob Marley’s country are mixes of house music and sampling of all kinds: extracts from old vinyl albums belonging to his mother to which he added sounds of Jamaican daily life like the sea, the planes, animals, children laughing, the sounds of a village waking up.
Pierre-Yves Lord’s musical creations are more likely to appear on digital platforms than on an album.
“It’s the fun of being able to create when no one expects anything. We really had fun immersing ourselves in a creative world. I’m on cloud nine to have been able to do this with my friends and local musicians who brought us into their community. Ultimately, I just want to make the world dance,” he says.
Other artists who have appeared at GeeJam Studios: Alicia Keys, Bad Bunny, Bjork, Drake, Dua Lipa, Florence + the Machine, Grace Jones, John Legend, Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar, No Doubt, Sean Paul, Snoop Dogg, Wyclef Jean.
