Pierre Guthrie “The car was switched off and it smelled like it was burning” / Scuderia AlphaTauri F1 Bahrain GP Final[F1-Gate .com]

Scuderia AlphaTauri’s Pierre Guthrie has retired from the 2022 F1 Opening Bahrain Grand Prix final race.

Pierre Guthrie, who started with soft tires from the 10th grid, started the race within the range when he moved up to 8th on the opening lap. He changed to medium at the first pit stop and hard at the second pit stop to advance the race in 8th place.

However, on lap 44, the car was switched off on Turn 1 and then a fire broke out from the rear. I got out of the car in a hurry and retired on the spot.

“It’s not the start of the season I wanted. The whole car was switched off on the outside of Turn 1 and then it started to smell burning,” said Pierre Guthrie.

“It’s a real shame because we got off to a really good start and we were able to overtake Fernando (Alonso) and then Kevin (Magnussen) when the chance came and we were pretty comfortable running 8th.”

“We lost an important point, but there were still a lot of positive things today. I was very surprised at the pace and it looks pretty good for the upcoming race.”

“Of course I need to understand the breakdown, but I’m sure I’ll find a solution. I had some good battles and it was fun to be back in the race. I’m already looking forward to next week.”
