A few hours following the departure of Dimitri Payet, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived in Marseille on Friday July 21. The 34-year-old striker, who had broken his contract with Chelsea, has therefore signed free with OM for three years. The Gabonese international is Marseille’s third major recruit, following the arrivals of Franco-Central African midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, from Atlético de Madrid, and Brazilian full-back Renan Lodi, a defector from Nottingham Forest where he was on loan from the Colchoneros.

Passed in particular by Dijon, Lille, Monaco and Saint-Etienne, the striker is making his comeback in Ligue 1, ten years following his departure from the Greens – with whom he won the League Cup in 2013 – to the Bundesliga and Borussia Dortmund

The Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal serial scorer emerges from a difficult season with Chelsea

In the Ruhr, it takes on a whole new dimension. In five years, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has established himself as one of the most prolific international strikers in Europe. He scored a total of 141 goals in 213 games and won the title of top scorer in the Bundesliga at the end of the 2016-2017 season.

He then bounced back to the Premier League at Arsenal. In the Gunners jersey, Aubameyang is still successful. He became one of the executives of the team with which he won the FA Cup (2020), the Community Shield (2020) and a Premier League top scorer title in 2019. He then joined Chelsea where he scored only 3 goals in 21 games before losing his starting place.
