PICTURES | Violent swerve after a police chase in Beloeil

A 17-year-old motorist chased by police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) for excessive speeding ended his race in a violent swerve in Beloeil, Montérégie, on Sunday evening.

The suspect was traveling on Highway 20 eastbound when the police tried around 11 p.m. to intercept him at kilometer 107 by deploying emergency equipment, said SQ spokesperson Catherine Bernard.

A police chase ensued over a distance of nearly 10 kilometers, when the driver who took exit 112 affected a road exit in the roundregarding of rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste and boulevard Yvon-L ‘Happy.

The vehicle rolled over causing it significant damage, while the young man who was alone on board was transported to a hospital for injuries that did not put his life in danger.

The suspect, who held a learner’s license, was arrested before being released and might face charges of flight and dangerous driving, said Constable Bernard.
