With this fundraising, the company specializing in home delivery of food shopping aims to cover 50% of households in Germany and France.
The Dutch company Picnic, specializing in home delivery of food shopping, announced on Tuesday that it had raised 355 million euros, which will mainly be used to expand its activities in Germany and France. “All shareholders have co-invested in the December 2023 financing round,” Picnic underlined in a press release, citing in particular the German distributor Edeka and the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation.
“We want to increase this coverage to 50% in the coming years. This requires a lot of investment in logistics, robotization, electric cars and people,” he added.
A turnover up 40%
Picnic also reported a 40% increase in turnover, to “around 1.25 billion euros” in 2023 and “expects growth to continue in the coming years” . “Picnic’s sustainable model, where groceries are delivered free to homes with electric cars (…) are important reasons why investors are investing in the successful expansion of the online supermarket,” said the company.
2024 will be a “bit of a dual” year, he anticipated. Picnic aims to become “profitable” in the cities in which it established itself almost two years ago, and to “continue its expansion and gain ground (…) and become the leader in home delivery” in the countries in which he is.
