More than 500 neighbors attended the Piano Bajo Las Estrellas activity held in La Hondonada Park. where, following the musical performancewere made astronomical observations by the Barrancas de Cerro Navia Astronomical Club together with the USACH Planetarium.
The Cerro Navia Scientific Summer, in its second version, included in its programming a show dedicated to I already study music linked to the universe. The outdoor activity, organized by the Science Department, began with the Musical proposal by the Chilean artist Claudio Recabarrenand ended with a day of astronomical observations by the students of the Barrancas Astronomical Club, with the support of the USACH Planetarium.
The mayor of Cerro Navia, Mauro Tamayo Rozas, stated:
“With this activity framed in the Second Cerro Navia Scientific Summer, we were able to observe the stars up close. Together with the stellar music of Claudio Recabarren, the piano and the pre-Hispanic instruments, a spectacular day was lived, since the attendees were also able to share with the monitors of the Barrancas Astronomical Club and the USACH Planetarium. It is also a celebratory activity because it is a sample of the progress of the Science Department, a vanguard instance in the democratization of science for girls, boys and adolescents of our commune, and also of nearby communes”.
The pianist, organist and composer Claudio Recabarren is a cultivator of the astro-art genre, music that invites us to look at the sky and have contact with the universe. The artist points out that:
“All the concerts belong to the astro-art genre, an idea that encompasses all scientific expression that somehow leads us to look at the sky. They are not astronomy classes or people who have to know astronomy, it is so that with music we remember to look at the sky ”.
First, Recabarren played two solo piano works: Fifth Dimension y far from the unionthen the trio music began, piano together with pre-Hispanic instruments, by the musician Rodrigo Qowasi, and also accompanied by the Italian musician Tomi Callani, where they played songs like Space Tram, Acturus y As I always was
Then, on the day of astronomical observation se observed the moon and its craters, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, the Orion Nebula, among other celestial bodies. The monitors responsible for guiding this observation were the members of the Barrancas Astronomical Club, space of the Science Directorate, and monitors from the USACH Planetarium. It was a pedagogical instance where girls, boys and young people learned regarding astronomy, meteorology, astrophotography, worldview of indigenous peoplesamong other related matters.
This is how the young monitor, Benjamin, highlights it:
“EIt was interesting and entertaining, we interacted with families, girls and boys, there were many people to listen to the piano and then see the stars, planets and nebulae through the telescopes”.
About his experience being a member of the club, Benjamín points out that it has been spectacular, “since I have attended many places and talks with teachers. The lessons that I was able to expose were interacting with people and I learned to control an electronic telescope together with Professor Guillermo Retamales”.
