In the first half of 2022, the Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio achieved the highest sales in the company’s history. Sales increased by 16.8 percent compared to the first half of 2021 and broke the one billion euro threshold.
The operating result (Ebitda) rose to EUR 152.2 million (plus 5.3 percent). Net profit grew by 3.9 percent to EUR 45.2 million, the best result since 2008, the company said. The board of directors approved the payment of a dividend for 2021 of 8.5 cents per share, just like last year. Piaggio sold 320,600 vehicles worldwide in the first half of the year (up 11.7 percent).
In scooters, the company saw a double-digit increase in sales on a global basis, driven in particular by the Vespa brand. In the motorcycle sector, Moto Guzzi closed a positive first half of the year with a 40 percent increase in sales. In the commercial vehicle sector, 49,000 vehicles were sold in the first half of the year (up 10.8 percent) and net sales of EUR 177.3 million were achieved (up 26 percent). The group wants to set up an e-mobility department at its headquarters in Pontedera, Tuscany.
