“This is the first time we’ve been able to pull together enough studies for us to come to a pretty good conclusion to answer the question of whether physical activity and exercise are good for children with depressive symptomssaid Walter Thompson, a co-author of the paper and a retired professor of exercise physiology at Georgia State University in Atlanta. “The answer is overwhelmingly yes.”
Data has even revealed the “specific dose” of exercise young people need to get the most benefit: regarding an hour of physical activity three days a week.
Thus, these findings provide a potential answer to the mental health crisis that has been affecting adolescents and young adults, in the wake of the pandemic and other important social changes.
