Regular physical activity would reduce the incidence of breast cancer, reveals a new study published in Canada and involving researchers from McGill and Laval universities.
Out of 100 women who adopt an active lifestyle, there would be 41% fewer cases of breast cancer than in a group of 100 sedentary women, the researchers point out, noting that this reduction was 38% if the women practiced an activity. vigorous physical activity at least three days a week, compared to fully sedentary women.

« For 100 people who engage in moderate-intensity physical activity, the equivalent of brisk walking, 40% of those people will not get breast cancer compared to a population that, she doesn’t“, explained Kaoutar Ennour-Idrissi, doctoral student in epidemiology at the University of Laval. On the other hand, a sedentary lifestyle has been associated with a 104% increase in the risk of breast cancer, she assured in remarks relayed by the Canadian press.
Previous observational studies had already shown an association between a sedentary lifestyle and an increased risk of breast cancer.
The authors of the study indicate that they used a sophisticated analysis method which makes it possible to exclude the influence of factors such as a family history of breast cancer, alcohol, cigarettes, among others, because, they note, ” for a particular person, it is not possible to know which factors are the most contributing« .
