After mixed reviews for Forspoken, inquisitive players drew attention to the game’s laudatory trailer, which was released a few days earlier. “Great,” wrote Distractify, “impressive,” said Game Informer, “cute,” praised the PlayStation LifeStyle. All these phrases didn’t fit with the reviews, so blogger Derek Lew decided to check the real reviews, and as it turned out, Square Enix deceived everyone: they simply took the phrases out of context, turning them into false praise.
Here’s what gaming publications actually wrote:
Distractify: “the game has the potential to become beautiful game”. The phrase was torn out not even from a review, but from a preview.
Game Informer: “Impressive Frey’s ability to move allows her to move quickly both in and out of combat.” The phrase is once more taken not from the review, but from the news regarding the gameplay trailer shown at State of Play. In the Game Informer review itself, the game was never called impressive.
PlayStation LifeStyle: “At first, Frey is not exactly a noble warrior, and it seems incredible cutewhen you see how her cold facade gradually fades away. “The phrase is taken from the review, but does not praise the game, but how the heroine changes.
Forspoken tells the story of Frey, a New York girl who finds herself in the beautiful and cruel Atia. To find the way home, Frey will have to travel through the vast expanses of the new world and fight monsters with the help of magic. Forspoken will be released on January 24th.
