Photovoltaic production: 2023, an average year
By Benoit Jacquemart
Does this more than gloomy end of July mean that photovoltaic production is catastrophic? We interviewed Benjamin Wilkin, from Energie Commune. “The last week has been bad,” he says. “But the rerte of the month was good.” If we take the whole month, July will be in the average since we made accounts, in 2014.
Benjamin Wilkin, the common energy.
“The year 2022 had been very, very good,” continues Mr. Wilkin. “It’s hard to compare. During this month, we produced 897 GWh (gigawatt hours) throughout Belgium, compared to 915 in 2022. A slightly lower production, therefore, but with a significantly higher number of installations. If we reason in terms of productivity, we still see a difference of 20% between the two months, but it is true that 2022 had been exceptional. If we take 2023 from the beginning of this year, we are on average. “It’s not bad at all,” comments Mr. Wilkin, “with a pretty good spring.”
Photovoltaics (which is mainly domestic in Belgium) alone accounted for 16% of Belgium’s total consumption in July. He also says that consumption in July fell by 10% compared to 2022. And by 7% compared to 2020, a year when consumption had already fallen sharply. If we add wind power, renewables accounted for 38% of Belgian electricity consumption in July, rejoices Benjamin Wilkin.
If we try to see further, 2023 should be average in terms of photovoltaic production.
