Hubert Lenoir waited nine months following the release of his excellent second album to find the Montreal public. And the long wait was worth it. In great shape, the musician delivered an unleashed and resolutely rock performance on Tuesday to the thousands of spectators who came to see him in a major concert outside the Francos.
In interview with The newspaperHubert Lenoir told us that he saw this concert at the Francos – probably his biggest of his career – as “a mix between a film by Jackass and a rock concert.
That’s what we had… from the first song! Appearing on the screens filmed by a handheld camera, manipulated “à la MusiquePlus” by his accomplice Noémie D. Leclerc, Hubert took a sip of beer backstage before going on stage. He wore a fluorescent yellow patrol jacket and an NFB cap.
- Listen to Anaïs Guertin-Lacroix’s cultural chronicle on QUB radio:
Shouting loudly when he arrived on the stage, the singer set the tone for the concert. The musician was jumping around performing a very rock version of Golden Days. Then, his musicians let off steam in a long jam with almost grunge accents during which Hubert was doing bodysurf on the crowd. We remember that we were only at the first song!
New parts
After a short lull in mtl freestylethe rhythm picked up once more from the next track, Sunday night. Again, the singer and his musicians have made a much more rock version, sometimes even punk, than on the album PICTURE OF YOURSELF: Musique directly. In the crowd, several spectators did not hesitate to jostle in a mosh-pit.
« I’m back, baby ! launched Hubert to the public who finally saw him once more following the singer toured the United States and France. The Place des Festivals was also pretty crowded on this superb Tuesday evening that looked like August.
At the disco
Further on, Hubert dropped the fluorescent jacket to reveal a pink dress, a dress he later took off to continue the concert in simple underwear!
After playing his biggest career success at the end of the course, Person’s Daughter IIHubert Lenoir left the stage before returning for an encore.
And what a memorable reminder we had! The singer sang PHASEfrom his latest album, before offering the public… discotheque music!
We thus heard in the loudspeakers of Flo Rida and Timbaland, artists who have – it remains to be verified – probably never played at the Francos. It was enough to put the party in the place des Francos.
After regarding fifteen minutes of dance pop music, and as part of the audience began to leave, Hubert reappeared to do his very beautiful Restart. A perfect ending to an evening you won’t soon forget.
Hubert Lenoir and his co-writers Félix Petit and Julyan received the SOCAN Song of the Year Award on Tuesday for the piece SECRET. “That’s good, it’s one of the best songs I’ve written,” said Hubert during the concert.
