A 51-year-old driver is in very critical condition in hospital following a loss of control during which he was ejected from his van late Tuesday morning in Montreal.
The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. on the service road of Highway 20 West, which also bears the name of Boulevard Montréal-Toronto, in the borough of Lachine.
For a reason still unknown, the driver of the van would have hit a concrete wall at the edge of the road, before going to finish his race among the trees at the edge of the road.
The victim, who was alone in his vehicle, was taken to hospital in critical condition.
No other car was involved in the accident.
A portion of Montreal-Toronto Boulevard has been completely closed to westbound traffic to allow Montreal police collision investigators to attempt to establish the cause of this accident.
This closure caused a huge traffic jam on Highway 20 West. The congestion stretched for several kilometers by mid-followingnoon.
