Joshua Nowitzki is an American anthropologist and photographer. He became interested in professional photography when he started taking photos for the museum with a good camera. April 28, 2015 he took a picture that brought him worldwide fame. From Grand Mer State Park in Stevensville, he photographed Chicago from his height.
The distance to Chicago was 59 miles (95 km). In accordance with the theory of the curvature of the Earth, he might not see Chicago – the city must be below the horizon for him. The city’s tallest skyscraper stands at 1,451 feet (442 meters).
The next day, local media began to try to refute this and said that it was a mirage. What else might they say?
If anyone wants to personally check whether the Earth is spherical or flat, there is an easy way. Take a camera or camcorder with good magnification and try to take a picture of a person or an object of comparable height at a distance of more than 9.9 km. This is the maximum visibility from a height of 1.7 m of an object 1.7 m high.
The next famous photographs that Nowitzki took were also taken by him on the shores of Lake Michigan.
These unusual and beautiful forms are natural sand sculptures. Their unusualness is that frosts, strong winds and wet sand are needed for their formation. After hours or a couple of days, these sculptures are destroyed. So the photographer, and all of us who see his photo, are lucky.
