Photographer Gytis Skudžinskas: this exhibition is my self-portrait and autobiographical comic Culture

“After all, we have all experienced a situation when a song, melody, phrase “sounds in our head” continuously and involuntarily. Such situations sometimes make you feel uncomfortable trying to get rid of intrusive information.

In us, these fragments that keep emerging and emerging, although they have no pragmatic value, they are accumulated in our subconsciousness out of “uncontrolled” ignorance. And the further I go, the more it seems to me that we are “made” of what has been learned, appropriated and assimilated for inexplicable, already forgotten reasons. In the long run, it became a kind of unnecessary, but at the same time “affecting” us everyday background of our life.

The exhibition “Two espressos in separate cups” was created by “hunting” for those fragments, texts and images. Certain sources of involuntarily created material are quite easily identified, but some remain as unarticulated data lost in the flow of information.

Gytis Skudžinskas (b. 1975) – photographer, author of installations, sound artist, graphic designer. Since 1999 studied at Vilnius Academy of Arts, Klaipėda Department of Visual Communications. in 2005 he was awarded a master’s degree. Since 1999 participated in group exhibitions, and since 2001 curates and initiates artistic projects and exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.

Since 2006 Member of the Lithuanian Union of Photographers. 1995-2005 participated in the art share group ŠaliKApalikau (aka Ensemble SP) in activities. in 2014 initiated the establishment of the publishing platform “NoRoutine Books”. 2020-2024 was the chairman of the Lithuanian Union of Photographic Artists.
