After having its final details revealed, the portable PC gamer ASUS ROG Ally had some information regarding its development revealed – in this case, a table full of prototypes of the console that will run Windows 11.
As shown by Engadget China during an ASUS press conference, it is possible to see a series of designs, with different colors and formatswhich have been improved little by little until reaching their final form, from some where the screen is lowered in relation to the controls to consoles that more closely resemble the Steam Deck or even a Nintendo Switch Lite.
The PC Gamer portal also takes a look at some of these different versions of the ROG Ally, some proving to be quite distinct. There are some that look like a smartphone screen that has been merged with some kind of brown extension and another that looks like a tooth-shaped foundation.
Rumors point out that ASUS would be working on the product for regarding five years. However, Galip Fu, director of global marketing for the Chinese company, admitted that the launch of the Steam Deck in 2021 has given a boost to the preparations for the ROG Ally.
“It inspired us to accelerate our collaboration with AMD to develop something even more advanced — something that’s powerful and efficient enough for modern PC handheld gaming,” said Fu.
AMD will supply the newly-revealed Ryzen Z1 CPU for the ROG Ally, which will power the portable PC with a seven-inch display with 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate with FreeSync. To further enhance security, the console also features a digital unlocking system, with the reader on top of the device.
ASUS promises to bring more details of the ROG Ally at the device launch event, scheduled for 05/11/2023, at 11 am.
