Blood donors in Vaucluse are having their portraits taken this week!
To thank and encourage donors, the French Blood Establishment is organizing a photography week. Each donor is photographed by a professional and their portrait will then be exhibited at the Maison du Don du Sang in Avignon or at a collection point.
On Thursday, September 26, donors are photographed in Caumont-sur-Durance and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. On Friday, September 27, it will be in Aubignan.
Incentivize blood donation and reward everyday heroes
Michel Andrzejewski, the president of the Thor blood donor association, explains that these photos reward “everyday heroes”. Every year in France, blood donation saves 500,000 lives: “The donor who comes to give, we will call him ‘the hero’. We never put him forward. It is an hour of heroism. So These everyday heroes who save lives, we reward them today with a photo. It’s great”.
A little recognition with a snapshot
Margaux lays down to give blood. As soon as she gets up, she sits back down for a photo shoot: “It’s to encourage others to come and give and to show that everyone can give. Also show that I did it and that I am proud of myself. A little recognition because if I don’t give myself some, who will give me some?” Marie Christine let herself be photographed but this regular donor who came as a couple confides that “I could have done without the image, but if it can motivate people to come and donatethat’s a good idea.”
A professional photographer Arnaud Robin came voluntarily from Saint-Saturnin-les-Avignon: “I try to capture the smile of the donors and relax them before the photo”.
Fanny had prepared her smile before the shooting: “Putting an image on the person who gives is not bad. Advertising blood donation and be a little everyday heroIt’s good” .
Every year, 500,000 lives are saved in France thanks to blood donations. It takes an hour, it doesn’t hurt and there is several collections per week in Vaucluse.
