A photo of EOKA member Avksendiu with the ELAM emblem was posted in a school in Larnaca, sparking outrage
It was reported that a photograph of EOKA member Grigoris Avksendiu with the ELAM emblem was posted on the board of a primary school in Larnaca, causing a reaction.
Haravgi newspaper, who wrote that the photograph was hung on the school board due to the April 1 anniversary celebrations of the founding of EOKA in Southern Cyprus, along with other photographs, stated that a black and white photograph with Avksendiu’s picture also includes a mention of Avksendu in the background of the photograph. He pointed out that there is a large emblem of the Greek Cypriot National Popular Front, ELAM.
The newspaper, which also wrote that there is a picture of an eagle with its wings spread in the photograph, stated that the photograph was removed following the intervention of AKEL party and AKEL deputy Andreas Pasiurtidis.
The newspaper added that AKEL deputy Pasiurtidis told the newspaper that “why and how a hero’s picture was hung with the emblem of a party like ELAM should be investigated”.
